All students at Young Scholars Charter School Middle School receive General Music education at their grade levels. These courses focus on instrument playing and singing, as well as music reading and writing, music history and many other music topics.
Students who are interested in performing music are provided with a sequencial program of music courses in band and choir. Students may join band or choir at any grade.
FAQ's 1. What safety mitigations are in place for Band and Choir? Because of this past year of living in a pandemic and it's varients, we will continue to hold private instrumental music lessons virtually through Google Classroom. Rehearsals will be held at the teachers discretion, outside on the school parking lot where we can be socially distanced. Choir rehearsals will be held at school during Study Hall time on Tuesdays and Fridays.
2. Can I take Band and Choir? Yes! It is possible for students to participate in band and choir at any grade!
3. May I join Band or Choir even if I didn't take them in elementary school? Absolutely! Students may join Band or Choir without previous experience.
4. Do I have to audition for Band or Choir? No! Students do NOT need to audition. If you do not already play a band instrument but wish to learn, talk to Mrs. Hurtz!
5. May I start an instrument in middle school? The answer is "YES"! You may start band at any grade level.
Concert Band Rehearsals are To Be Determined. Due to Covid-19 and CDC guidelines Band Rehearsals may take place on weekends or evenings. Instrumental Lessons will take place through Google Classroom AFTER school.
Concert Choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:15-3:50 p.m. First Concert Choir rehearsal is Tuesday, September 10th
