Welcome to 7th grade science! We will solely be focusing on Life Sciences throughout this course. Here are a few things you will need to know:
Materials Students must bring the following items to EVERY class, even if certain materials are not used every day. Items may not be shared.
Single Subject Composition notebook
Folder or 3 ring binder (1 or 1.5 inch)
Earbuds/Headphones - no bluetooth
2 glue sticks
Students may be asked to wear clothes that they do not mind getting dirty on specific days due to experiments, field trips, etc.
Missing/Late Assignments All assignments are due at the beginning of the period on the given due date. Assignments will be given a zero until turned in. As in accordance with the OWL guidelines, late assignments will be assigned credit as follows:
No credit will be given after 2 weeks. Points will be deducted for each day the assignment is late: 1 day late = max of 90% 2 days late = max of 80% 3 days late = max of 70% 4 days late = max of 60% 5 days late - 2 weeks late = max of 50%
Students who miss work because of absence will receive the opportunity to make up missed work. Students are given one school day for each day absent. It is the student’s responsibility to get work missed due to illness or absence, including any notes that were taken during class. Notes should be obtained from a reliable classmate.
Absences All assignments posted to Google Classroom will indicate whether the student is expected to complete the assignment despite being absent. Students who miss activities that require physical lab materials will either be given an alternative assignment to complete or will be expected to get the key takeaways from the assignment outside of class time. Just because a student is absent, does not mean they are not responsible for accessing the content. Grading The following categories are weighted as follows:
Projects: 25%
Tests: 25%
Classwork/Homework: 20%
Labs: 20%
Quizzes: 10%
Homework Daily homework will be rarely assigned. If classwork is not finished and there will not be explicit time in the next class period to finish, it is expected that it is completed before the next class. Multi-day projects may be assigned outside of class time.
Leaving the Classroom Students must sign out via Smart Pass each time they leave the room. Acceptable reasons for leaving the classroom include:
Bathroom
Water fountain
Office
Emergencies
Other reason accepted by the teacher
Topics Covered Topics, in no particular order, include: Matter, Chemical Reactions, Forces and Motion, Types of Interactions, Energy and Conservation of Energy, Relationships Between Forces and Properties of Waves.
