​We have a record breaking number of participants this year in Math Team! We currently have 19 students participating in practices, and will have our first competition on November 19th.

​Our captain this year is Adam Brookens! Adam has been in math team since his 6th grade year, and often leads our team as the high scorer during competitions.

I'm so excited for the our 2018-2019 Math Team! We have some strong students in our group this year and we have a very promising team. Here is the list of our students participating this year:

Since we had our last meet at the beginning of April, the Math Team is embarking on a journey to learn a little about coding using the TI Basic coding language built into the TI-84 calculators that the school has. We are following the units on Texas Instruments' TI 10 Minutes of code. Students will learn the basics of coding, including how to use variables, loops, conditional statements, and more! YSCP hosted our last meet of the year on Wednesday, April 4th. Thank you to all of the staff helpers and parent volunteers who helped make this a successful meet at YSCP! And thanks to Mateo and Moorea (pictured below) who helped to clean up the MPR before the meet!

Our top scorer for this meet was Eli Rose. Congrats Eli!

The YSCP Math Team went to our fourth Math League Meet of the year on Wednesday, February 28th. Though we did not have a full team at this meet, we still placed 7th overall. Our top scorer was Eli Rose. Congrats, team!

We have one more meet this year that we will be hosting at YSCP! It will be held on April 4th at 6pm.

YSCP was represented at the Centre County MathCounts Chapter Competition this year by 8 students. The YSCP official MathCounts team consisted of our four 8th graders: Ayla Dedeoglu, Nathan Duty, Ashrafur Khan, and Eli Rose. Competing as individuals were Mary Ayata and Eva Wilf. We also had two 5th graders who went to the competition unofficially to gain competition experience: Noah Ayata and Moorea Knapp.

The YSCP team placed 3rd in our division, and our top scorer was Eli Rose. Congratulations to all and well done!

Our third Math League Meet of the year was at Penn State Altoona. Our team placed 6th overall and our top scorer was Ayla Dedeoglu. Nice job, team!

We had our second meet of the year at Park Forest Middle School. Our team placed 6th overall and our top scorers were Ayla Dedeoglu and Eva Wilf. Congrats!

We had our first Math League Meet on Wednesday, October 25th. Park Forest Middle School hosted teams from State College, Bald Eagle, Altoona, and YSCP middle schools. This was the very first meet for over half of our team, and overall we did well.

Ayla Dedeoglu was the top scorer for YSCP, followed closely by Eli Rose! Our team placed above the Bald Eagle teams and below the State College and Altoona teams.

We are looking forward to our next meet, which will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at Mount Nittany Middle School at 4:30pm.
